This is an old story, long long overdue. We actually went to Düsseldorf 3 years ago but I just haven't had the time to write about it for some reason. Well, that's me procrastinating on a whole new level, for 'ya.
Anyway, I was 7 months pregnant when we took the trip. To be honest, we were planning for an island vacation. But then something came up and hubby dear was ordered to go to Dortmund. I was sulking rather gracefully when I heard the news until he said, "Pack and come with me!"
Next thing I knew, I was booking flight tickets for me and my boys. We had less than a week to do some shopping and to get a letter stating that I'm good to fly from my gynaecologist. Thankfully it was spring time so all we needed was a good warm sweater and my gynae was cool.
Day 1 - Changi to Düsseldorf
We had someone to drive us from Johor Bahru to the Changi International Airport the day before our departure. Stayed one night at the Crowne Plaza, which is very convenient since the hotel is located at the Terminal 3 of the airport itself. The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel, then took the monorail from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2. For the life of me, I can't find any pictures of the hotel. Did I tell you that this post is long long long overdue.

Excited boy |
Emirates Airlines certainly didn't disappoint. Immediately after we settled in our seat, the flight attendant handed one kiddy earphones, a blanket with stuffed toy for each of my boys. Oh, and a backpack filled with stuff. During mealtimes, they got a snack box each. Also, the in-flight entertainment was enough to keep any children happy and occupied for the whole time. The foods were all good too. No complaints here what so ever.

Cozy blankie |
We survived the 15 hours flight with a short layover in Dubai and arrived in Düsseldorf around 6 in the evening. Went straight to the hotel afterwards and by the time we settled in, it was already a little over 8 pm. Exhausted and all, we decided to simply went to bed.
Day 2 - Rheinuferpromenade and the Altstadt
We woke up really early partly from hunger and also because of being jet lagged. After breakfast, we decided to start exploring beginning with a walk by the river at the Rheinuferpromenade or also known as Rhine embankment promenade.

Very chilly for noobs like us |
Then we continued to the Altstadt which is Düsseldorf's old town. Here you can find the longest bar in the world, clubs, pubs, restaurants, quaint cafes, and charming shops.

Phew.. This momma needs to sit down for awhile. |
We did some more walking which took us to a park, somehow. I honestly don't know how that happened. The weather was cool and Düsseldorf is a fun place to walk at your own pace. Very child friendly. No one's rushing you, and the cars here stopped for you to cross the road, which was new to me since back home it is always the other way around. Haha!

Mr. Jetlag strikes again! |
Then we took the taxi back to the hotel.
Since the boys were still jet lagged, we stayed at the hotel and took it easy for the rest of the day while hubby went out to settle some work stuff and buy food.
To be continued... Soon. I promise.
Part 2 here.
