Terengganu Road Trip - Part 1

Day 1

Terengganu is one of the east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia. It takes approximately 7 hours to get there from where I live, which is in Skudai, which is waaay down in the South of Malaysia.

We decided to do all the 7 hours drive in one day which is something we do not recommend to road trip noobs out there (grin). Anyway, time is precious so we head out at 8 in the morning all prepared with homemade bread that I managed to bake the night before. That way we can save time by having breakfast in the car.

Excited for another adventure! Err.. and one sleepy baby.

Ok, now awake and very excited.

The first 2 hours of the drive was pretty straight forward since we took the Plus Highway to Segamat. From Segamat we pushed on to Kuantan. Since it is already noon, we decided to stop by the famous Akob Patin House for some lunch. Well, actually, I decided... And hubby obliged. Yahoo!

Akob Patin House. One of the best place to eat the Patin fish in Kuantan.

Akob Patin House is pretty much the to-go place should you have the hankering to eat the Patin fish. Here you have to choices of Patin Fish, which is the normal patin and the Patin Buah. Patin Buah cost about RM10 more that the normal Patin. At the time I was there, the normal Patin cost RM20 per piece. This price tends to change from time to time.

Patin Fruit .. Yummm ..

Other than Patin, they sell many other dishes. Many other yummy dishes, I mean. It's buffet style, so take what you want. Pile up those plates to your heart content, no one's gonna judge. At least, I don't think.

Ok, back on the road with a full tummy. From Kuantan we took the east-coast highway straight to Kuala Terengganu. We did stop for 15 minutes at the Paka rnr to stretch our legs, much to our buttocks' delight.

The east-coast highway with mountain view in the horizon.

The east-coast highway is much more peaceful compare to the Plus north-south expressway. Less lorries and busses too. With the view of cloud covered mountains in the horizon. Lovely!

We arrived in Kuala Terengganu at 3pm. Not bad, right? Perfect timing to check into the hotel.

We've made reservation at the J Suites Hotel. Situated at the centre of Kuala Terengganu, making it super close to most of Kuala Terengganu's attractions. 5 minutes away from the Waterfront and 10 minutes from the Syahbandar jetty and Pasar Payang.

I was so tired after the long drive, I forgot to take pictures of the hotel. Hey, I'm only human.

The room is spartan-ish but clean. The staff are all polite and eager to pleased. I asked for an extra pillow and 3 hangers, they gave me 2 pillows and 6 hangers. Housekeeping is generous with whatever you need too.

For dinner, we were still too tired to explore and simply went to eat at the Payang Serai restaurant at the Waterfront area. They provide Thai seafood dishes. Again, no pictures. Forgive me!

After dinner, we went back to the hotel. The boys are tired and the bed is cozy with all the extra pillows and all, so we called it a night.

Day 2

Husband got to attend a boring conference for the day, which was the real reason why we were in Kuala Terengganu anyway (hihi). The boys and I however, are free to explore!

After dropping off hubby dear at the Grand Puteri Hotel (where the conference was being held), I decided to check out the beach. I love the beach... Addicted to the beach more like it. And Kuala Terengganu have many beaches! Beach number one in my list for the day was, Pantai Batu Burok, situated about 10 minutes drive from our hotel.

Running on the beach.

The little one was like, "Why aren't we jumping in the water yet?"

We managed to find a less crowded spot and the boys spent some times playing with the sand while I take pictures.

Afterward, the boys wanted to go to the playground, so I drove around to find a playground. Any playground, I don't care, just so they would stop pestering me about it. We somehow ended up at the Kuala Ibai Lagoon, where there's a park with playground and jogging track. Here, you can also find the Tengku Tengah Zaharah mosque, also known as the floating mosque.

And then off we go to the Pantai Teluk Ketapang, also known as the beach next to the airport.

Serene, isn't it?

One side of the beach right by the airport is a rocky shore. A quiet spot if you're interested and fishing. But drive to the other side, away from the airport, you'll find the sandy shore with benches and seats, and small stalls selling foods and drinks.

Swings right on the beach? Awesome!

By the time we got here, it was already 2 in the afternoon. The sun is way high up but that did not deter us from having fun.

The waves here are stronger than Pantai Batu Burok, therefore I have to keep reminding the boys to not go in the water. They tried to stay away, they really did. But somehow they still managed to get their pants all wet and covered with sand. Oiy!

Anyway, in Terengganu, there are no shortage of restaurants that sell deep fried tempura seafood, or more known as celup tepung. And boy, they are cheap cheap cheap!

I'm a happy momma!

Since it's almost 4 pm and my boys are all covered in sand, we decided to go back to the hotel and continue exploring the next day.

And with that, I shall stop this post and continue with a new one real soon. Gotta take a shower. Haha!
